The other day I was writing a commencement address with the President of a global hotel chain. Even though he was studying with me, I learned so much from working with him. Something he said in the closing remarks of his address to the student body were:
“I can live my life the way I want to live it, or I can live my life the way others want me to live it. Find your desire.”
I went on to share that when one discovers what they truly want to do/want to be, that becomes their ‘due North’ for their life’s Journey. It takes courage and dedication to pursue this single-minded purpose: to live life on our own terms to the best of our ability. It is a choice and as I have taught for decades,
everything in life revolves only around two things—to choose to do something or to choose not to.
In Vocal Awareness, the choice I encourage us to make is an empowering one. A choice that both benefits ourselves while also serving others.
