Organizational Effectiveness Consultant
Q. What in your life brought you to the realization that you wanted to improve your Voice?
A. Ever since I was 5 years old I have spoken with a stutter, which proved to be a burden on how I perceived myself. I did whatever I could to cover it up, but maintaining the facade was mentally, emotionally and physically exhausting. I went for numerous speech therapy sessions and although the methods used supported me in the technical aspect of how I spoke, I needed more than that BUT I did not know what it was at that time. Fast forward 30 years, to when my Voice discovery started to unfold. I was assigned a Global role, which meant I traveled to different parts of the world. My role was to inspire, coach and support leaders make changes within their organizations, my role was to be a trusted adviser, my role was to BE a leader and not just DO tasks, my role was to develop and coach junior staff members in leadership. What stands out for me in this role, is how much people listened to what I said (not just “hearing” what I said), how my presence impacted how others interacted with me and with each other. One of my key vehicles to achieving this is my Voice – the wonderful gift I have been given, the gift that I need to use to inspire others to connect with their own Voices, the gift that is unique to me and unique to every single one of us. Being open to receive the messages from others and from the Universe allowed me to discover the ultimate potential of my Voice and the Power my Voice has in changing the world and inspiring others. Where am I now with my stutter? It’s still there AND it hardly shows up. When I share with others that I have a stutter, most do not believe me. When my stutter shows up – I allow it to show up because it is part of who I am – so the facade is no longer there and it is liberating.
Q. Do you recall a moment when you felt a shift, or even a break-through, because of your Work with Arthur and/or Vocal Awareness?
A. I’ve had numerous break-throughs as a result of my commitment to Vocal Awareness – in my Voice AND also in different parts of my life; this proves the fact that Vocal Awareness is an integrative approach that has enabled me to consciously connect deeper with my BEING (Spirit), my BODY, and my thoughts (Mind). During my daily Morning Rituals, I have discovered the value of being present, the value of coming from a place of love, the value of taking my time to go deeper, and the value of self discipline. I choose to set time aside every morning to do the morning ritual sequence; when I choose to perform the rituals, my day starts off extraordinarily well and I am able to maintain the feeling throughout the day. When I choose not to perform the morning rituals (which is happening less and less), I notice the difference in how my day unfolds and how I show up in the world. Choosing to have the discipline, meeting my commitments and loving my Self as I am in the moment are all key foundations of Vocal Awareness. Q. What has been the biggest benefit thus far from your practice of Vocal Awareness? A. The biggest benefit from my practice of Vocal Awareness is the fact that I have a choice to be conscious in my Life. Having experienced the impact of consciousness, I am now able to apply it in all parts of my Life – in how I breathe (Conscious Loving Breath), in how I love my Self and others, in how I spend my time, in the pace of my life (Take My Time), in how I interact with others and my Self (Pay Attention, Deeper Listening), in how I accept my Self as I am in the moment. All this is liberating and freeing and infectious – others have shared with me how my way of being has changed and how my level of connection is deeper and intentional. I cannot emphasize enough how much Vocal Awareness has transformed my Life and continues to transform my Life; Vocal Awareness is also transforming the lives of those around me, at home and at work, directly and indirectly. I am full of gratitude that Arthur has made the choice to share Vocal Awareness with the rest of the world and not just the “chosen” few.
